Feed the Homeless

FEED 500
ATTENTION: Because of funding and restructuring to ensure that we are loving our neighbors as best we can Feed 500 will be on hold indefinitely. Please sign up for the volunteer email list and stay tuned for other opportunities to serve.
The New York City Urban Project partners with the Love Kitchen in Washington Heights to bring lunch and a portion of God’s love to those in need in Washington Heights. The minimum number of volunteers needed is 5 and the largest group has been 135. Together we all pack the bags needed for those who will come to the shelter. Then if we have more volunteers we divide the city into a zones and head out in groups to meet people where they are with a lunch and the love of God. The difference with what we do at the Love Kitchen is that we believe man can not live on bread alone. Thus, our goal is relationship with those we serve and a relationship with God. On Saturdays when we “Feed 500”, one lunch is for the person you’re serving and one lunch is for you. Listening to their stories and sharing your own is how the barriers between us are broken and our humanity restored. We are not there just to give money and the homeless and needy are not just there to take it. They are people with names and stories and so are we. Thus, we are there to share and serve.
