In Depth Overview

For 6 weeks, every Sunday and Wednesday evening we will investigate what it means to flourish, work, rule and create as God intended in our vocation by diving into scripture, narrative, and candid testimony. “Let’s Talk Avodah | Work, Worship & Service” is NYCUP’s Summer Vocational Leadership Program bringing together Christian professionals and students to better reflect God’s Kingdom in our work places, increase sensitivity to the Spirit through spiritual discipline, and respond in word, deed and power to God’s leading even if it’s contrary to our dominant cultural narrative.

Avodah is a Hebrew word whose root has three distinct yet intertwined meaning: work, worship, service. The root of this ancient word speaks life to the present day. If God can and should be the center of every sphere of our lives, how do we do that with our work? We aim to inform, inspire and equip the next generation of marketplace leaders with the tools necessary to reframe, integrate, and apply faith in Jesus particularly to their everyday employment. With a generous grant from the Lilly Foundation we will produce a 6-Part lecture and discussion series where all attendees will be invited to Avodah Our God at work!

On Sunday evenings, our attendees will attend Calvary’s worship service to be facilitated jointly by Calvary Baptist and InterVarsity ministers. Immediately following the service there will be a dinner and discussion period around the topic that was broached, featuring Christian professionals in the city who will share more deeply, expounding on the topic. Then, on the following Wednesday night, we will facilitate an interactive workshop where attendees will apply said principles and construct a discipline to integrate these values into their daily lives.

*Please Note: If you are only attending Calvary's Sunday evening service, there is no need to register. However, If you intend to stay for the workshop and dinner immediately following the service, you must register and pay in advance using the instructions above.
