ABOUT OUR PROGRAM


InterVarsity’s New York City Urban Project exists to develop individuals into leaders with the character and capacity to change the world. We believe firmly that we cannot testify to a freedom that we don't know anything about. With this in mind, our week-long experiences will invite all attendees to be the people God has intended us to be so that we can do the things He has called us to do. 

Each day at NYCUP we will dive into scripture to see what God has to say about who we are and what we are to do in the world, particularly when it comes to homelessness, sex-trafficking and labor slavery, exploitation of our planet and other issues on injustice in our work. 

Then we will respond in concrete, sustainable ways that can be integrated into your every day life. 

To close out each day we will debrief, hear from experts and be informed, inspired and equipped to take what we've learned from a one-time experience to justice work truly being a part of our every day lives.

FAQ'S


When should I arrive and depart for my session? 

Please arrive by 2PM on the first day of your session. You are free to go at 9 AM on the Saturday of your session. 

How should I travel into NYC? 

The best thing to do would be to take public transportation into the city. Please do not try to park your car in the city. If you come in on a bus or van service into the city, it should be a drop off. Parking in the city is difficult and we would not want you to get a ticket.

Do I have to stay on-site with everyone?

Yes. Students and volunteers will be required to spend each night at NYCUP Housing.  The goal of NYCUP is for you to build your relationship with God, with the community and with one another.

Where will I be staying? 

You will be staying at the Local NYC. Click here to learn more about what is provided.

Do I have to be a part of InterVarsity to come?

No, but you must be of college age to attend, 18-29. If you have further questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. If you are not a part of InterVarsity, you will have to provide at least 1 reference from a pastor, spiritual advisor on campus or faith leader in your community.

Can my church/school help pay for the trip?

Yes! You may ask your student government, church and other groups to co-sponsor to send your group to NYCUP! The gifts are NOT tax-deductible.

Is there a discount for groups?

No, there is not a discount for groups but there is a discount returnees who would like to come as staff. Please email nycurbanproject@gmail.com for more information.

Registration for ALL IV staff and official volunteers is required as well unless waived. 

Who should I make my check out to?

All checks should be made out to INTERVARSITY with NYCUP in the memo. Do NOT have a check written out to you or to NYCUP.  If you do, they will be returned to you.

When do I turn in my money?

After you register online and pay your deposit, any remaining balance can be paid in advance by making an online payment or by making payment in person upon arrival. 

If you do not pay in full at the time of arrival, you will not be allowed to participate.

Where does my money go?

Every expense during NYCUP Spring Break will be covered including all food, travel, lodging, materials, speakers, staff and more. Your funds go towards covering this and the work of NYCUP in New York and New Jersey.

Does registration cover travel?

No, you are responsible for your own travel expenses to reach NYCUP. Once you arrive, all program expenses are covered by NYCUP.

PAYMENT DETAILS


The full fee for Spring Break Session 2 is $360 (this includes a required deposit of $250)A deposit of $250 is due during online registration. This means that when you pay your $250 deposit online, you only have to pay $110 before or upon arrival. Or you can choose to make your full payment initially which will fulfill your deposit requirement and close your account as you would have paid in full. Any remaining balance is due upon arrival or can be paid online before arriving. 

Checks must be made out to “INTERVARSITY CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP” with“NYCUP” in the memo.  Do NOT make the check out to NYCUP! It will be returned. Cash is also accepted. These gifts are not tax-deductible.

CANCELLATION POLICY


1. Please notify us as soon as possible of any cancellation by emailing us at nycurbanproject@gmail.com or calling 212-248-6621. 

2. If a cancellation is made more than 2 weeks in advance for your given session, deposits are refundable. In addition, you will not be responsible for your remaining balance if the cancellation is made more than 2 weeks in advance.

3. If a cancellation is made 2 weeks or less in advance for your given session, we are not able to refund your deposit and you will be responsible for paying your remaining balance.
