ABOUT OUR PROGRAM

InterVarsity’s New York City Urban Project exists to see leaders developed with the character and capacity to change the world.  We believe that every person is made in the image of God to flourish, work, rule and create and be stewards NOT consumers as God intended. This is the foundation of our LoGOFF Movement and REConciliation Week 2017. (#RecWeek17) 

New York City will be our world-class classroom for 5 days as we study scripture, pray fervently and respond actively to the commandment to love our neighbors as ourselves. Come and learn to use our 4 P's to Pray, Partner, Purchase, and Policy-shape to seek God's personal, relational and systemic justice in a world filled with relational and systemic injustice. 

Fighting sex-trafficking and labor slavery, building tutoring and mentoring programs or movements to fight climate change and more are all responses to God's desire to RECONCILE all things to Himself.  See you at REConciliation Week!

REGISTRATION

Registration for RecWeek 2017 is now open! Click on the appropriate session to register.

If you would like to be a Group Leader during your session (and thus, have your registration fee waived), please apply here before registering. Should you be approved to be a Group Leader, you will receive a code which will allow you to register without paying the registration fee. 

Session 1: March 7-11  Early Bird Registration open through February 14 ($100), Late Registration open until March 9 ($125)

Session 2: March 14-18 Early Bird Registration open through February 21 ($100), Late Registration open until March 12 ($125)

Session 3: March 21-25 Early Bird Registration open through February 28 ($100), Late Registration open until March 19 ($125)

Session 4: March 28-April 1 Early Bird Registration open through March 7 ($100), Late Registration open until March 26 ($125)**

Session 5: April 4-8 Early Bird Registration open through March 14 ($100), Late Registration open until April 2 ($125)**

**Please note: Sessions 4, 5, and 7 are subject to cancellation based on the level of interest. This will be decided by February 1st 2017. If you register for one of these sessions and we decide to cancel at that date, you will be provided a full refund.

BASIC PROGRAM INFORMATION

Programming will begin at 7PM on the Tuesday of each session at 17 W. 27th St. 3rd Fl. (InterVarsity NY/NJ Regional Office). Please check in to your housing prior to that time and then make your way to our program location. Please note that this year, you are responsible for securing and paying for your own housing for the duration of your stay. You are also responsible for meals and transportation (to/from NYC, and within the city). Here is a Guide to help you as you plan for your trip. 

Programming will end at 1PM on the Saturday of each session. You are welcome to leave after this time (and subsequently check out of your hotel/hostel according to their policy on Saturday). If you would like to stay Saturday Night we encourage you to stay until Sunday to participate in a church service. Here are our recommendations:

Trinity Grace Midtown @ the Times Center-5:00PM (242 W. 41st St. NY, NY 10036)

New Life Fellowship-9:00AM and 10:30AM (82-10 Queens Blvd. Flushing, NY 11373)

 

PAYMENT DETAILS

The registration fee for all sessions is $100 if you register during our early bird dates (see the information directly above for session specific dates), and $125 if you register late (again, see above for these details). A non-refundable deposit of $50 is due during online registration, so please have a credit or debit card at hand. Automatic billing for the remaining balance is scheduled for April 16th 2017, but you may also pay in advance.

Please note that you are responsible for securing and paying for your own housing, meals and transportation (both to/from NYC and within the city). We recommend securing housing sooner rather than later. A list of recommended hotels/hostels will be made available shortly, but you are welcome to choose your own housing. 

 

CANCELLATION POLICY

1. Please notify us as soon as possible of any cancellation by emailing us at nycurbanproject@gmail.com.  

2. The $50 deposit paid during online registration is non-refundable. The remaining $50 (or $75 for late registration) can be refunded if the cancellation is made two weeks or more in advance for your given session.

FAQ'S

When should I arrive and depart for my session? 

Please arrive by 7PM to 17 W. 27th St. 3rd Fl. (InterVarsity NY/NJ Regional Office) on the first day of your session. You are free to leave anytime after 10PM on the Saturday evening of your session. But we encourage you to stay through Sunday and visit a church service. See above "Basic Program Information" for recommendations.

How should I travel into NYC? 

The best thing to do would be to take public transportation into the city. Do not drive your car to New York City. If you come in on a bus or van service into the city, it should be a drop off. Parking in the city is difficult and we are not responsible for your parking tickets. 

Do I have to stay on-site with everyone?

No. This year, participants in our program are responsible for finding their own housing. 

Do you have any recommendations of where to book housing? 

We recommend contacting Hostel International NYC, the Local NY or one of our other partners. We will provide more recommendations shortly.

Do I have to be a part of InterVarsity to come?

No, but your leader must be approved via our application process.  If you have further questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. If you are not a part of InterVarsity, you will have to provide at least 1 reference from a pastor, spiritual advisor on campus or faith leader in your community.

Can my church/school help pay for the trip?

Yes! You may ask your student government, church and other groups to co-sponsor you or your group to NYCUP! The gifts are NOT tax-deductible. 

Is there a discount for groups?

No, there is not a discount for groups.

I would like to apply to be a Group Leader during RecWeek. What do I need to do? 

Applying to be a leader of a group at #RecWeek17 means you are bringing at least 3 other people with you. If this is true of you, please fill out this application. Once your application is reviewed and approved, you will receive a scholarship that covers your registration.

I would like to pay by check. Who should I make my check out to?

All checks should be made out to INTERVARSITY with NYCUP in the memo. Do NOT have a check written out to you or to NYCUP.  If you do, they will be returned to you.

When do I turn in my money?

After you register online and pay your deposit, any remaining balance can be paid in advance by making an online payment. Auto-billing will take place on April 16th for any unpaid balance.

If you do not pay in full by the time of arrival, you will not be allowed to participate.

Where does my money go?

Your funds go towards covering the cost of speakers, staff, materials and the work of NYCUP in the NY/NJ region.

Does registration cover travel?

No, you are responsible for your own travel expenses to reach NYCUP and also for the cost of public transit when in NYC. 

Does registration cover food costs?

No, you are responsible for your own meals as a participant of our program. This will allow you greater freedom to choose what you like, as well as help those who have special diets. 

I'm InterVarsity Staff and want to attend NYCUP. Do I need to register?

Registration for ALL IV staff is required, even though the cost is free.
